Description

CD André Campra : Requiem

André Campra (1660-1744) is one of the major figures of the revival of French musical taste, nourished by Italian influences, which characterizes the Regency and the reign of Louis XV. If this "meeting of tastes" we are particularly familiar to opera music or chamber, it also irrigates the sacred repertoire. Mass deaths of Deputy Master of the Chapel Royal embodies, more than any other, this combination of a deep spirituality with exuberance, lavishness and new inventions. The masterpiece of André Campra, accompanied by one of his motets (In convertendo), paves the way emblematic of Requiem "Gallican" which eased the lights blossom again in the following centuries, from the pen of Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Duruflé.
