CD Béla Bartók Emmanuel Bex Trio
Organist, pianist, talented composer many times rewarded (jazz victory,Golden Django, Jazz Academy) Emmanuel Bex is an indisputable figure of the European Jazz. After a first record (Sock jazzman/Jazz magazine 2009) with a repertoire around Bex's compositions, the trio OPEN GATE presents a new recording which puts Bela Bartok in the very center of their project.
Bela Bartok's compositions and Bex's compositions too, one of them being a new piece in 3 movements. That piece involves the trio which associates all the talent of the "Pays de savoie" orchestra, 23 musicians (19 strings, 2 horns, 2 oboes). E Bex asked F.Tortillier (former manager of ONJ) to conduct the orchestra.
Bela Bartok is a major composer of the 20th century. His music has contributed to the birth of contemporary jazz music. He was one of the first to use irregular beats and to mix his elaborated music with ethnic and popular ones. He also initiated the dialogue with jazz, inviting B. Goodman to create "contrasts"
By a mirror effect, the trio OPEN GATE explores here the links which have been forged between this composer of genius and jazz.
That realization has been possible thanks to N. Chalvin who "confided to us" his superb musicians of the "Pays de Savoie" orchestra. E. Bex has asked F. Tortiller to conduct the orchestra just for a "concerto for trio and orchestra" , E.Bex's work, in a sort of tribute to Bartok he would never have dared imagine.
