Description
CD The Lyre of the Soul Olivier Vernet
Déodat de Séverac is well-known to music fans for his piano pieces. He was also an all-round musician and a poet. As a student of Louis Amiel, the organist, at the Conservatoire of Toulouse, then Vincent d’Indy and Albéric Magnard, his catalogue does indeed include many scores for piano, but there are also arias written to poems by Paul Rey, Maeterlinck, Verlaine, Baudelaire, et al, religious choral works, secular choral works, lyrical scores, as well as around ten pieces for organ. Let us not forget that he was an organist all his life and had a secret harmony, a continuous, passionate relationship with the organ which he called the "lyre of the soul." So, to understand and appreciate him, an introduction to these works is an absolute "must"!
