Description
CD Live in Détroit Paul Paray
There was a time when three French conductors used to conduct great American orchestras : Pierre Monteux in San Francisco (1935-1952), Charles Munch in Boston (1949-1962), and Paul Paray in Detroit.
Paul Paray (1886-1979) became a conductor almost by chance, starting his activity in 1919 during the summer season at the Casino of Cauterets, before conducting the Lamoureux and Colonne orchestras. At the same time he also conducted the orchestra of the Casino of Vichy, the Monte-Carlo Orchestra, and that of the Paris Opera. He conducted for the first time in America on July 24th 1939, at the time of the Great Exhibition in New York, where his success was triumphant.
