Although Anima Eterna was hardly at its first experience with music of the past, tackling Strauss' music required a big step forward. In accordance with the orchestra's philosophy, the musicians chose to play historic Viennese instruments from the second half of the nineteenth century. They searched for instruments, tried them out, borrowed them, invested in them..the instrumentation they assembled made an attractive characterisitic sound. Listen to the full but transparent sound of the horns, the nobility of the trumpets and the trombones (though powerful, they never drown out the other instruments), the sweetness of the flutes and clarinets, the profundity of the oboes and bassoons, the varied sounds of the percussion instruments and the musicality of the timpani. Listen to the stringed instruments and the enchanting sound of their gut strings.
