Description

CD Valaida Snow

Valaida Snow (1904-1956) was one of the most fascinating characters in jazz history: singer, dancer, and also one of the first female trumpeters (her nickname was "Little Louie"), in a life filled with scandal. She played with Earl Hines, Django Reinhardt and Count Basie, discovered Bud Powell, and was just as eccentric as her friend Josephine Baker was. Arrested for theft in Denmark in 1941, she explained her absence from the US jazz scene by pretending she had been in a concentration camp, a legend that boosted her career until the truth was discovered. This collection contains her essential discography, including some R&B titles.
