The Music

In the island of Trinidad in the fifties, the now mostly forgotten night club on South Quay on the waterfront of Port of Spain, the Dirty Jim's Swizzle Club, was the venue where tourists and others in the know (boxers, elegant gentlemen and sophisticated ladies) would go to ear the great calypsonians of that age.
Sadly the nightclub is long gone and much of the sound of this era is gone with it.
These historical recording sessions re-create the spirit of that place featuring the living legend of calypso and a band of older musicians that play in the original style.
This calypso craze again!

The Film

Thence came the idea of filming the last of the great calypsonians bringing them all together to sing such classics as "Rum & Coca Cola", "Jean & Dina", "Shame and scandal in the family", to name a few - an opportunity to recapture the sound of classic calypso in all of its splendour.
